I am intimate memories. I am seeing without naming. I am sound.
Merging my inner forest with your birdsong we travel each other’s resonances.

Damp Sheets is part of an ongoing project Expanded Being, where the choreographer Jennifer Ocampo explores the relationship between choreography and architecture. Inspired by the works of the American architect Gordon Matta-Clark (1942-1978), Damps Sheets investigates about new spaces between bodies and places, and between emotions and house`s edges, allowing a permanent instability to appear between their bodies and the walls, unfolding layers of memories and history.

  • Oktober 2016: Reciprocal Affectation, Duo mit Andrew Wass. Im Rahmen von „Nah dran“. Ada Studio.                                                                                                            “Reciprocal affectation” is an embodied investigation of location of touch. We are inspired by social anthropologist Tim Ingold and his idea of (not only) human life as a mesh of overlapping trajectories.Working with pathways along, across and through each other, we affect the dance through confluence, divergence, influence, contrast and collision. As the movement itself is improvised the unpredictability of the other creates an alert and highly focused state requiring constant adaptation. Continually negotiating and composing our relation in every moment, we offer up a framework for the audience to examine issues of power, freedom and responsibility.Another layer within “Reciprocal affectation” is the linguistic juxtaposing of English and German. Investigating idioms from both tongues we look at differences that inspire us and play with the interdependence of language and perception. Layering abstract movement with words, the dance engages the audience on multiple levels. The viewer is enabled to layer stories, fantasies and fiction onto the dance – ranging from the quotidian to the poetic. The use of words reveals various perspectives of interpretation, thereby confronting the audience with their conditioned habitual modes of perception. Meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted – lines of thought emerge, connect, diverge and fracture.
